The Sync With RTU tab is used to synchronize configuration settings and licenses from the local database with an RTU. This tab can also be used to retrieve diagnostic logs from an RTU.
An SCADASuite program must be installed on the RTU using Telepace Studio, and must also be running, for successful communications. When an SCADASuite program is not installed on the target RTU, or is not running, you will see a Modbus exception message in the Comms Log area.

Discover RTU configuration
Use this button to discover which applications are installed on the RTU. Use the arrow on the side and the drop down box that appears to choose which communications settings to use. I
Switch to the Comm Settings tab to choose communications settings via a view that can be filtered and sorted. This tab is useful for the case where you have more settings than can easily be displayed in the drop down part of the button.
This area shows the result of a discovery request. It shows which applications are installed, what version they are at, the user configured application name and the license status. This is summary information and is retrieved very quickly.
In this case, the RTU has the Plunger Lift and Datalogs applications installed. Both applications are working on a demonstration license, which means that no license is installed.
Choose a single application here to see compatible application configurations in the Compatible Applications area.
This area shows application configurations in the local database that are compatible with the application selected in the RTU Application Summary area. A compatible application configuration is a configuration that is the same type, at the same configuration version, and does not have any validation errors.
In other words, this area shows the local configurations that can be downloaded to the RTU, or that can be overwritten by the configuration from the RTU.
This area also shows at a glance whether the local configuration in the database is different than the configuration on the RTU.
Use the Filter by Name text box to filter the compatible applications by name. When a filter is active, only applications that have the filter string in their name will be shown. The filter is case insensitive.
This area is where we actually synchronize the local database with the RTU. Buttons make it possible to download an application configuration to the RTU, create a new application configuration from the RTU's configuration, or overwrite a local application configuration with the configuration from the RTU.
Create New Configurationfrom RTU Configuration. Use this button to create a new application configuration in the local database based on the the application configuration from the RTU. This button is enabled as long as discovery was successful and the PC Configuration Application understands the configuration of the application on the RTU.
Update from RTU Configuration. Use this button to update the application configuration that is selected in the Compatible Applications area. This button is disabled if there are no compatible applications, or if no compatible application is selected.
Update RTU Configuration. Use this button to download the selected configuration in the Compatible Applications area to the RTU. This will overwrite the configuration in the RTU. When the download is complete, click the discovery button to verify the configuration in the RTU is identical the downloaded local configuration.
Take care when downloading an application configuration to the RTU. Depending on the changes that are made to the configuration the control program may reset itself
Use this area to manage application licenses on the RTU.
Use the dropdown box to select a license to copy to the RTU. Options in the dropdown box are filtered to only show licenses that match the controller ID of the connected RTU.
Use the Write License to RTU button to copy the selected license to the RTU. Look at the diagnostic logs from the RTU to see whether a license was validated in the RTU.
Use the Read License from RTU button to read the license from the RTU. This will create a copy of the license in the local database. On the Licenses tab you can see the details of the newly created license.
This area shows live communications information. Only summary information is shown unless there is an error, in which case the raw bytes that were sent and received are shown.
Use this button to retrieve diagnostic logs from the RTU. All logs for all applications on the RTU are retrieved, including configuration change logs, application diagnostic logs, and the SCADASuite startup logs. Retrieved logs can be viewed on the Log tab.
This button is only enabled after successful discovery.
