Applications on the RTU are licensed. This tab allows for the management of application licenses for multiple RTUs. Licenses are imported and stored in the database. Once imported, the original license file is no longer needed, but you should keep them somewhere safe as a backup.
Application licenses are tied to a specific RTU using the RTU's controller ID. A single license file can hold licenses for multiple applications. When an RTU has multiple SCADASuite applications installed, only one license file is required to license all of the applications.
Each application license can either be permanent, in which case it is good forever, or have an expiration time, in which case the license is only good up to the expiration date. Once a license expires, the program on the RTU will cease to function. Expiring licenses are meant for demonstration and presales purpose, and must not be deployed on live equipment.
Do not deploy expiring licenses on working sites. When the license expires the program will stop working and unintended operation could occur
Each application license also potentially has application specific options. For example, the Plunger Lift application allows licensing of the number of plunger control loops, while the Well Test application allows licensing of the number of test separators. Some applications have no application specific options, however.
Each application license has a built in support period. You can upgrade the application on the RTU to any new version within this time without getting a new license file. After this time is expired upgrades are no longer allowed and you will need a new license file if you want to update the application on the RTU. If you are on a support contract then Gen7 Systems can generate a new license for you at no cost. The upgrade period has no effect unless you want to upgrade the application the RTU. Once an application version is licensed, it is licensed forever.
When an application is first downloaded to the RTU using Telepace Studio, the application is automatically licensed for 7 days under a demonstration license. Under the demonstration license, all application specific options are also licensed. A permanent license is still needed so that the application can operate past 7 days. Reloading the application on the RTU will start another 7 day demonstration period.
Verify that your application has a valid license and isn't operating from the 7 day demo license. Check the startup log and the application's diagnostic log to see the license status.

Import license files
Use this button to import a license file. License files have a .appsuitelicense.txt extension and can be opened in any text editor. If the license can be read and verified, the license will be imported into the database. Each license file is tied to a single controller ID, and thus a single RTU.
Once a license is imported, you no longer need to the license file, although you may want to keep a back up somewhere.
This area shows you all of the licenses that have been imported. Multiple licenses can exist for a single controller ID, so make sure that you are working with the correct license, or delete old licenses from the database before importing new ones.
The Name and Customer fields are not a part of the license file, but are stored in the database. These fields are user configurable.
This area shows the details of the selected license. It shows the applications that are licensed, and for each application it shows whether the license is permanent or will expire on some day. It also shows application specific licensing options.
The Updates until field shows the time after which upgrades of the program on the RTU will require a new license file. After this time is expired upgrades are no longer allowed without installing a new license file. If you are on a support contract then Gen7 Systems can generate a new license for you at no cost.
The upgrade period has no effect unless you want to upgrade the application the RTU. Once an application version is licensed, it is licensed forever.
