Modbus Settings

See the Applications and Modbus section for details on how to use the settings in this group.

Starting with Plunger Lift version 0.18.0 and newer, the application will no longer read or write to any modbus registers until a configuration has been downloaded to the application at least once via the PC Configuration Program. This change was made because when the program was first loaded onto the RTU, it would start writing status information to modbus registers using the default configuration. This has the potential to cause unintended operation, especially in the case where the user uses a different set of modbus base addresses than the defaults.

If your configuration uses a different set of modbus registers than the defaults then the first download should contain the new modbus registers addresses. After the first download is complete, the application will interact with modbus as usual, including writing all status values. If the first download doesn't contain the new modbus addresses, then the default values will be used and unintended operation may occur.

This mechanism may cause the application to appear stalled after it's loaded onto the RTU, but before it is configured, because the application will not read or write to any modbus registers until a configuration is downloaded to the application.
